The Tawny Owl is frequently found in wooded areas and parkland, preferring broadleaf trees. The Tawny Owl is the most vocal of the British owls often heard as the classic “twit-twoo”.

The Tawny Owl has a varied diet depending on the prey available within its habitat. In wooded areas, it will feed on mice, voles, shrews with some birds, worms and beetles. In urban areas small birds may form the main part of the diet such as sparrows and starlings. They may take goldfish from garden ponds, frogs, newts and lizards. Tawny Owls have a silent flight and are heavily nocturnal.
