We’re ever increasingly seeing the effects of detrimental human activity around us, may this be in the unseasonal weather, rising sea levels, increase in global temperatures or extinction of species. It is clear that we all have a part to play in reducing our individual environmental impact and that we can all contribute to improving the natural environment through making simple changes to our lifestyles. The same goes for businesses. We must manage our resources so that we provide the same opportunities and quality of life for future generations whilst maintaining our high quality of customer service.
We want to ensure that our activities are carried out with the environment in mind, in doing this we are protecting the best interests of all our customers in the long term. The Park has adopted a system of participation, this means to raise awareness and encourage participation amongst our customers , also to improve staff awareness and training to highlight environmental issues and impacts.
Listed below are the areas in which we continually look to improve on:
Pollution - Blair Drummond has a diverse surrounding environment, so we have a responsibility to protect this surrounding natural environment and we feel it is vital that this is protected from any forms of pollution. We are currently looking into plans to convert our waste cooking oil from our catering department into biodiesel, doing this will significantly reduce our CO2 emissions and lower consumption of fossil fuels.
Waste – Approximately 85% of Scotland’s waste is sent to landfill which is a massive misuse of resources and a major contributing factor to greenhouse gas emissions. Businesses can play a key part in reversing this trend in Scotland as can householders, a good method in which to reduce your waste going to landfill is to use the waste hierarchy; Eliminate, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Energy – Fundamental in-house measures are essential to cut down energy consumption, this is a simple and cost effective way for businesses and households to cut their carbon emissions and save money! All lighting within Blair Drummond is now also going to be energy efficient which will decrease the energy demand in the park. Householders can also apply for grants from the Energy Saving Trust if investing in renewable energy for households.

Conservation work is one of our priorities as we feel we have an integral part to play and a responsibility in the conservation of endangered species. From this, we find it essential that education in conservation is integrated into the customer experience to raise awareness of endangered species and to gain a better understanding of the natural world .Environmental protection also plays a big part in conservation work, this is why look to protect the natural environment within the park to in an effort to keep living conditions for our animals at a premium. Blair Drummond plays host to a host to a range of native Flora and Fauna, the reason why we are proud of our location and look to maintain our surrounding environment to the highest standards.
