Bella Passes Away

1 November 2017

We are saddened to announce that Bella, our eldest California sea lion has died.

Bella moved to Blair Drummond Safari Park on the 5th of December 2004 from Flamingo Land, North Yorkshire and served as an ambassador animal for her wild counterparts to help educate and inspire millions of guests to respect marine wildlife and conservation through immersive public presentations.

Nikki Morrison, Team Leader of the Sea Lion Department at Blair Drummond Safari Park, comments:

“Bella was a much-loved star of our sea lion team and she will be sadly missed.  She was very popular with our staff and visitors alike and we have been completely overwhelmed by the public reaction to her passing”

Struthers and Scott Veterinary Practice worked closely with Bella and the other sea lions on a weekly basis. Vet, Patrick Day said:

"Bella was one of the parks oldest sea lions and unfortunately developed complications from an existing liver disease and passed away peacefully over night."
