World Animal Day

4 October 2023

Today is World Animal Day, a global initiative dedicated to promoting animal rights and welfare. The primary goal of this day is to create a better world for all living creatures. We believe it’s a cause worth celebrating, and that’s why we’re going all out this weekend!

We’re hosting festivities on both Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th, right here in the park. Our passionate Education team will be running a variety of enjoyable activities in our Blair Drummond branded gazebo. All the proceeds from these activities will support our fundraising project, Link to the Wild.

Through Link to the Wild, we raise funds for in-situ conservation projects around the world. Every penny we collect goes directly to the charities we support. Since 2014, we’ve raised an astounding £204,000!

On the day, you can choose from a range of engaging activity sheets, interactive enrichment-themed games, fascinating animal talks, live demonstrations, and our Education team will be available to answer any animal-related questions you may have.

But here’s the real excitement: you could be in with the chance to go behind the scenes and meet some of our most iconic animals, including giraffes, rhinos, meerkats, birds, and chimps. Plus, you could be the lucky winner of an exclusive sculpture crafted by the talented artist, Lesley D McKenzie. Lesley has graciously donated an incredible artwork portraying our mother and son sea lion duo, Ineke and Otis. Otis, who was born earlier this year, holds the distinction of being the park’s first-ever pup. Check out a sneak peek of this stunning masterpiece-in-progress below.

All in all, we think we’ve got an epic array of activities planned for you.  This is one celebration you won’t want to miss!
