Green Tourism: Silver Award

2 August 2013

Blair Drummond Safari Park has been awarded a Silver standard, this is a great improvement on last years bronze. Although the criteria have not changed in the last two years, the GTBS scoring has become more rigorous owing to advancements in technology, increasing awareness and the continuous improvement ethos of the scheme.

Summary of the report

The commitment shown by staff to sustainable tourism practices has resulted in movement up an award level, which is a great achievement.

The most major change since the previous audit is the installation of an excellent new recycling system, which seems to be developing well. This is supported by good waste monitoring, and a food waste scheme is also in development.

Other highlights include good use of recycled paper and plastic products in the restaurant, the sourcing of sustainable fish for animal feed, the development of a new native wildlife area and excellent education and interpretation on conservation issues for visitors.
