Pumpkins placed around the new macaque drive-through

Blair Drummond Safari Park has gone to town on Halloween-themed enrichment today and placed pumpkins around the new macaque drive-through.

Head keeper Craig explains

“The macaques don't need any encouragement to get out investigate safe, novel items placed in their enclosure, it is important to provide them with enrichment throughout the section. By using lots of pumpkins we can ensure that the shyer macaques get time to interact with the pumpkins whilst the more dominant ones are occupied at the other end of the exhibit. They’ll feed on todays pumpkins as part of their carefully controlled diet, it's also our hope that the seeds will take and we'll be growing pumpkins in the enclosure."

Pumpkins will be placed in many other enclosures this weekend as part of our end of season Halloween finale. We’ll be closed for the winter from 2rd November. For our last weekend, we’ve planned some ghoulish fun alongside a price promotion - Kids £5 (3-14yrs) see website for details.
